Every Woman Should Know Her Risk for Breast Cancer

Now She Can with a Simple Urine Test!

Breast cancers are potentially life-threatening malignancies with far reaching impact on the lives of those afflicted and their loved ones. Scientific research has been an invaluable tool in our fight against this formidable foe as it has provided the means to gain a better understanding of and develop strategies to mitigate the impact of breast cancers on the lives of all affected.

Why are certain tissues, such as the breast, susceptible to estrogen-induced cancer? Why are some women susceptible, but not others? These are questions that led scientist to investigate further into estrogen and breast cancer connection.

Estrogen.....

Has long been the subject of special focus and an increasing number of studies are providing further insights into the relationship between breast cancers and Estrogen metabolism. The pathways in which estrogens are metabolized and ultimately how they can impact a woman’s risk for breast cancer is very important.

Researchers at Rockefeller University have found that the body metabolizes estrogens into several different metabolites that can impact cancer development. One metabolite, 2-hydroxyestrone (2-OHE1), tends to inhibit cancer growth. Another, 16-a-hydroxyestrone (16-a-OHE1), actually encourages tumor development.

A woman’s "biochemical individuality" determines which of these metabolites predominates. Studies have shown that measuring the ratio of these two metabolites provides an important indication of risk for future development of estrogen-sensitive cancers. The studies also show that this risk is modifiable!

The ratio of these two critical estrogen metabolites can be measured from a single urine specimen. Urinary 2/16 ratios less than 2.0 indicate increasing long-term risk for breast, cervical, and other estrogen-sensitive cancers. Importantly, nutritional interventions can help raise urniary 2/16 ratios and decrease long-term risk.

Dr. Aidun recommends testing urinary estrogen metabolites to:

1. Women in perimenopause

2. Women in menopause using Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy

3. Women with history of breast cancer

4. Women with family history of breast cancer

Who want to to be proactive in doing what they can to reduce their risk of breast cancer.
