Preconception program

Integrative/complementary approach to reproductive endocrinology and preconception

In keeping with our stated mission of striving to meet the changing healthcare needs of the modern woman, Dr. Sima Aidun N.M.D has developed packaged solutions specifically designed to help couples meet the potential challenges of Assisted Reproductive Treatment (ART)as well as natural conception. The objective of these programs is to optimize the health of both potential parents well before conception occurs so that the ART/conception can be started with a balanced, strong, healthy foundation in order to mitigate potential risks posed to the conception process by environmental factors such as nutritional deficiency, toxins or disease. An optimized set of developmental conditions translate to a markedly decreased chance of environmental damage to an otherwise genetically normal egg or sperm. Also, in the case of a positive pregnancy, we strive to assist the embryo implant and subsequently develop under optimum conditions in a healthy uterus. Our programs aim to “widen” your “window of opportunity”, and increase the possibility of a successful conception as well as maintaining the pregnancy.

Integrative Fertility Care Programs, general overview:

1. Comprehensive Programs*

i. 3 Month Program: Preconception/Pre ART

ii. 6 Month Program: Therapeutic Preconception/Pre ART

2. Acupuncture Only Programs

i. Pre ART/conception Program*

ii. Post Conception Program

*Designed for the “preconception phase”, these programs are formulated specifically for the purpose of optimizing your chance for success during ART, Preconception

Important note:

While we do offer individual visits and treatments, random office visits and acupuncture treatments not only have not been shown to be as effective as consistent treatment that is provided with regularity, but also become more costly at the end. Once you have made the decision to enhance your chance of fertility, it becomes of paramount importance to follow a program that is designed for that purpose. Therefore, for maximum effectiveness we strongly recommend the long term comprehensive approach that is built into our Fertility Care programs.

As for the question of which program may be best suited for you, Dr. Aidun will assist you in that decision following a joint review of all pertinent data during consultation.

General information:

Integrative Fertility Care programs are composed of 3 elements:

I. Element of Acupuncture

• Stimulates follicle development.

• Improves blood flow to the reproductive organs (ovaries &uterus).

• Balancing effect on the Neuro-endocrine system.

• Helps alleviate the side effects of ART treatment & improve the response to hormonal stimulation.

• Helps to alleviate some of the tension which is inherent in this extremely stressful situation. Among other benefits, acupuncture treatment will provide you the opportunity to give yourself the permission to relax in an emotionally neutral setting.

II. Element of Supplementation

• Improves overall reproductive function:

a) Improves quality of egg/sperm

b) Balances hormonal levels

• Helps repair and prevent cellular damage to eggs/sperm caused by environment, life style and aging (detoxification)

• Addresses possible underlying health condition that may effect fertility such as: Menstrual Irregularities, Endometriosis, Autoimmune infertility , Luteal Phase Defect, Ovarian Cysts, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Recurrent Miscarriage, Uterine Fibroids, male factor infertility

III. Element of Nutrition

• Optimal nutrition can play a key role in:

a) Achieving fertility

b) The health of a pregnancy

c) The chance of giving birth to a healthful baby

Our goal is to gradually but permanently establish a healthy lifestyle. As part of our comprehensive program, we will assess your diet/ life style and recommend nutritional guidelines on a weekly basis. The recommended nutritional guidelines focus not only on incorporating balanced food groups, but also maintaining healthy eating habits. An example of the benefits of this approach is keeping insulin levels from elevation- excessive insulin unnecessarily stimulates excessive ovarian hormonal production which in turn contributes to an environment that is not favorable to the events leading up to the growth of follicles and ovulation ultimately resulting in increasingly irregular cycles. One's overall nutrition has a subtle, but powerful effect on all of the body's systems, including reproductive health.
